Passion and organization is the answer

September 23, 2016

The other day I had someone ask me how is it I manage being a single mother of four, a soldier, a graduate student, a volunteer for a social justice organization, an A4MS participant, participant in a women group and still have ME time…well my friends the answer is simple. Having a to-do list and a calendar are a big part of keeping me organized, I do not know how else my life would work. In reality the answer is my heart is 100% in everything I do. My life does not run me, I have full control of my life and a say to what I want to do or not do.

It took me a while to get to a place that I was confident to turn things down. Saying no was very difficult for me because I thought I HAD to do everything yet also felt like I was all of there place. Mostly because I realized that when I was saying yes to others, I was saying no to myself. The more in alinement I am to myself the more selective I am in choosing whether or not something is in alignment to my purpose. I am not ashamed to say I am a multi-passionate entrepreneur. Before I used to think that I needed to focus on one thing and one thing only but the truth is I’m passionate about many things. I now understand that only because I’m passionate about everything doesn't mean I have to do it all or even turn everything into a business.

For now, I am involved in what I know is in alignment to my bigger purpose and the way that I am able to be amazing at it all is my calendar and to-do list. Before I commit to something I make sure to look at my calendar. I have a physical calendar and also keep one on my phone. So if there is ever a chance I don't have my calendar, for the most part I always have my phone. The night before I figure out what I have to get done and make a to-do list so I can have a more productive day. There are also non negotiable items that are on my calendar religiously. Such as my time with my children, my A4MS Sister Circle, nail appointment, hair appointment, gym time, and anything that involves taking care of me. We must always remember we must take care of ourselves first to be able to care for others. Remember, you are not required to set yourself on fire to keep other people warm.

Let me start off by saying I want to apologize for being MIA. After attending Landmark I know that integrity is a huge part of shaping your life. If you cannot keep your word to yourself, how can we expect for anything else in your life to work? When I began my journey of this campaign I inspired women to take part and they agreed in hopes that I would share their stories.

After the domestic incident between my ex-husband and I, social services were referred to our home. I remember being so irritated thinking, what did my kids have to do with him putting hands on me, he had never hurt the kids. The social worker came by to my house several times and I kept dodging her visits.
