Keeping Your Word

September 07, 2016

Keeping your word is so powerful. Many times I’ve promised myself I was going to do something and I didn’t stay true to my word. You know what that did to me? It made me feel little as a person. It made me think if I don’t even keep my word to myself, how I will expect other people to believe me. The most accomplished I’ve ever felt was when I completed something I said I was going to do. Like school, originally when I started my undergraduate degree was right out of high school in 2001. I attended Long Beach City College for a year and then I got pregnant with my second child, I moved, life happened. There are many other excuses that I allowed to keep my out of school. It was only when I was sick and tired of being sick and tired that I decided to finally finish my degree. In summer of 2013, I completed my BA in Psychology. Regardless of the fact that it took my 10 plus years to complete a 4 four degree program did not take away the feeling of triumph.

Life will continuously get in the way and there are times when we will fall short of what we said we were going to do. Instead of allowing that to discourage you, let that be fuel and know that you must keep going. Do not focus on what you want a year from now, a month from now, or even a week from now. Focus on what you can do in the next 24 hours that will get you closer to your dreams. Understanding that your words are powerful is extremely important. Once you learn that and start living your life with integrity everything else will start aligning in your life. I now know that I am powerful, my word are powerful; sticking to what you say you’re going to do and doing it is what gives us power. I’m no different than anyone and neither are you.

The only difference between successful and unsuccessful people is successful people keep going no matter what. My plan is to be the best version of myself; that means I have to get my mind, body, and soul right. Even if I’m not in the mood, I don’t focus ion not wanting to do it, I just do it.

Ariana and I first met at a women’s conference and from the beginning, I knew that she and I would become friends We eventually began to met up to share our stories. As we sat and talked over dinner, Ariana was in tears as I shared my daughter's story with her. She said that I was an amazing and strong mother for standing by my daughter after I found out her father had sexually abused her.
